It’s funny, I finally decide to start writing, create an outline – and have not followed it yet. Typically, I’m not a “list” person. I don’t generally know what I’m going to say until I start – so, writing is just another adventure!
Some of my all-time favorite things: sitting on our deck with my husband, coffee in hand, watching the sun come up over the Cascade Mountains. The filtered, yellow-gold light coming through the trees, birds waking up and chirping, squirrels and bunnies running all over and our dogs on constant watch for something to chase. Currently, our garden is in full bloom and it’s not only beautiful, but it smells heavenly. All these sights, smells, and sounds give me peace when I’m home.
Travel is another favorite of mine. The saying goes something like “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey”. Normally I agree (life itself is a journey) but not with travel. Travel is all about the destination. Let’s face it, airports (or however you get to your destination) aren’t typically fun. Try to find the adventure in the process. I find humor by people watching – man, that’s some good stuff. Parents trying to wrangle kids (and each other), business travelers who get completely lost in their iPhones (same with teenagers), couples who are tired and hangry, and single travelers pretty much ignoring everyone.
Tips (most are no-brainers): when traveling by yourself, with family or friends, pack snacks. Get a reusable water bottle (trust me, this will save you time and money). I found the Manna insulated water bottle at Bed Bath and Beyond – this thing keeps beverages cold for HOURS and I love it! Amazon.com or your local grocery/variety store will also have some great products too. Bring books. Make sure your electronic devices are charged – and bring your charging cables! If you have kids, bring games, favorite blankets/toys, easy snacks (pretty sure you have your own tips & tricks too!). These are super simple, inexpensive and will save your sanity…and those of your fellow travelers. These “tips” aren’t just for flying. They are for road trips, trains, cruises – however you travel.
My absolute favorite “thing” in the world? My family. My husband is an amazing soul and I couldn’t possibly dream up a more perfect person to live life and have every day adventures with.
Of course, I have many other “favorite” things and I’ll touch on more later. Tell me, what are some of your favorite things?
Being laid up recovering from knee surgery, I totally get your appreciation for “the little things in life,” like sitting on your deck and watching the day unfold. For me right now, just making coffee is an adventure – there’s some risk, but a huge reward. Knowing that these restrictions will be gone soon makes my desire to experience these everyday adventures worth waiting for. Keep writing, Cathy – you’re a natural.
Wow….Steve that is high praise. Thank you. And I hope that you’re healing well. Please shoot me a text/call when you get a chance. Need to catch up.
