For Chris’s birthday this year, we decided to go to San Diego. We couldn’t pass up the flight cost ($237 TOTAL round trip – yep you read right. I thought this was an awesome deal!!).
With the flight cost so low, we opted for a nice, boutique hotel right on the beach, the Pacific Terrace Hotel (you may have figured out from previous posts that we LOVE the beach, ocean, water, etc….lol).
The weather wasn’t perfect, but it was most certainly better than at home.
Oddly we didn’t really do much “sight-seeing”. We did get to Old Town which is absolutely charming! In my opinion, it’s a must. Great food, shops, artists, the works – oh and all very walk-able!
We spent a lot of time walking the beach, the neighborhoods and browsing the restaurants and shops near our hotel. Our first day there, we did over 12K steps according to my fitbit. The next day? Almost 18K! Oh – if you get to San Diego, a breakfast/lunch stop that is an absolute MUST is Kono’s. Hole in the wall, always a line out the door, fast and friendly service. You might want to consider sharing a meal with whomever you’re with – it’s a LOT of food!!
Unfortunately, I ended up sick. What I thought was a bad asthma attack turned out to be a nasty case of bronchitis (I found out after we got home). As per our usual though, it didn’t stop us. We took a trip up to La Jolla and saw the seals, pelicans and the cutest squirrels!! We got a ton of sleep, beach time, good food, sights and relaxation. All in all a good trip and I think Chris was happy to spend his birthday somewhere SUNNY!!
Sounds really nice. Glad you two had a great time. Sounds like the kind of vacation I would like. Lots of walking good food and sightseeing.
