Life-long Learning

Do you consider learning an adventure and fun? I do! Recently, I decided to embark on a couple new hobbies. Photography, writing and taking classes, oh and of course, travel! Photography is a fun, frustrating, exciting and beautiful way of expressing an artistic side. You may have noticed I used the word “frustrating”. Only so because you think you took the “perfect” picture, upload it and whoops. Wrong settings. Luckily, with editing software such as Adobe Lightroom it’s pretty easy to fix certain “oopsies”. I hope to eventually print and showcase some of my better pictures.

About eight months ago, I decided to take Human Resource classes to re-engage my brain. I was feeling a bit complacent and bored and needed to get the synopses firing again. The next plan for classes is some photography and then Spanish with Chris. Since we like traveling to Latin American locales, we thought it might be a good idea to have some conversational Spanish, rather than just looking confused when people speak to us.

Writing. This has proven to be a bit more…difficult. Putting thoughts, feelings and ideas down in written form is daunting. I don’t consider myself brave per se, but I do feel the need to challenge myself a bit. So, the reason behind this blog. I’ve always wanted to write. Not sure what held me back, other than lack of confidence. But, if you can’t face your fears (believe me, I’ll discuss phobias later), you won’t grow.

With travel, you not only learn about new places, cultures and food, you learn about yourself. It’s an amazing experience. One that shouldn’t have any excuses to not do.

How do you challenge yourself? Is it travel? Taking classes? What moves you to learn more and expand your horizons? Personally, my plan is to continue to learn, create, travel and grow. And so far, I love every minute of it.

I too have been thinking about taking Spanish classes. Many of the patients at the hospital don’t speak much or any English and I have to find someone who does. Since Spanish is spoken by many, I want to help where I can. Way to go you two!!

Thanks!! We started Monday – so far so good! Look at Everett CC in their Personal Interest portion. I’m sure there will be more classes soon.

Hola! Starting next Monday Cathy and I will know more than one word phrases in Spanish. This is going to get interesting.

I think this will be fun!! We need to remember to start using Spanish at home so we keep it fresh!
