Are you the type who will plan out your vacation down to the last second? Or do you just wing it? We are a combination of the two. We usually have some sort of excursion planned before the trip. Well, not for Puerto Vallarta.
When we decided to head to Puerto Vallarta for a much-needed long weekend at the beginning of December, all we planned was the hotel and flights. That was it. This was definitely not our norm. Turns out, it was a great experience!
On Wednesday, once we landed and settled in our hotel room, we decided to eat lunch and have our traditional first drink – mai tai! We stayed at the
Melia which is an all-inclusive resort. Not everyone likes all-inclusive resorts, but we enjoy them. Restaurants, drinks and various other amenities all included? I’m in! Of course, we head out to other places to eat but it’s nice having some place easy to grab a bite without needing to carry cash or credit cards.
The next day, we wandered over to the kayak rental to do some inquiries. Turns out they don’t schedule kayaks only. They do more extensive adventures too! After talking to the gentleman at the kiosk, we decided to take a walk and figure out what we wanted. Ultimately, for the next day, Friday, we decided to do the Islas Marietas Eco Discovery tour through Vallarta Adventures. I can’t possibly recommend these folks enough. Gracious, knowledgeable, safety conscious and so entertaining!! We snorkeled, whale-watched, played on Majahuitas Beach, rode a banana boat – and even though the guys kept going faster, Chris and I BOTH stayed on! Oh and of course, we kayaked…the sunburn was SO worth it!! At the end of the day, heading back to port, the whole crew got in on a musical and dance play. Absolutely hilarious and fun! These young men and women go all out to make sure everyone has a great time!
Saturday, we decided to grab a cab and head to town. Oddly, it wasn’t really busy – which was great! We walked along the malecon, ate lunch at El Patron Viva Vallarta and holy smokes…amazing!! Chris had fajitas and I had rib-eye street tacos…OMG. Oh and can’t forget the margarita and pina coladas!! After lunch, we wandered through town a bit more then headed back to the hotel for our last afternoon and evening. Sunday and time to go home came way too fast. Overall, a great long weekend (but not long enough of course) and we will DEFINITELY be back – and spend more time exploring the area!
Sounds wonderful.
It was Steve – we just weren’t there long enough!
LOVE Vallarta!
It was our first time and we LOVED it!!! 🙂
So much fun! I’m ready to go back.
Color me shocked!
